About Piggles Trust
Here at Piggles Trust we have a vision: to provide Early Years Education to young children in hospital across the UK. We are passionate in our goal to create a team of Nursery Nurses within our children’s hospitals that can offer vital educational provisions that are currently so lacking.
Piggles Trust is a ground-breaking project and the first of its kind in the UK. We hope that with your help and generous donations we can grow and develop the charity so that pre-school education becomes the standard model that exists in children’s inpatient wards.
Why Support Piggles Trust
The focus of Piggles Trust is to support not only the patient, but the WHOLE family. When a child is in hospital for lengthy periods of time, it is not only their own education that is disrupted, but also the education of their siblings. Through the provison of pre-school education that is specifically tailored for a patient, parents can recieve some much needed respite and feel reassured that their child is not missing out on key developmental milestones. No child should be left behind.
We believe that every child in the UK deserves the right to an education, whether that be at pre-school age or above, and for Piggles Trust this includes young children who are hospitalised due to chronic illness. An education offers children a beneficial mental stimulus during a hospital stay. It also helps children to structure their time, promoting psychological well-being which is central to recovery. Also, an education in hospital helps children achieve a stronger feeling of normality and a sense of continuity of everyday life.
Through the donations we have received to date, Piggles Trust has been able to establish its first pre-school provision at Southampton Children’s Hospital. This has been successfully running for a year and the feedback we have received has been incredibly positive. Our aim is to now replicate this model in other children’s hospitals and therefore we need crucial funding to employ more nursery nurses and provide them with all the necessary educational equipment and support they may need.
Piggles Trust is fortunate to have a brilliant and effective team of Trustees who work cohesively to ensure the charity’s success. Their work is underpinned by the generosity and commitment from so many people in so many different capacities. From those who volunteer and give up their time to help us at events and behind the scenes, to those who kindly donate money in support of the Trust and lastly to those on the front line in our hospitals – we couldn’t do it without you!
Did you know that the UK is one of the Top 10 most generous countries in the world when it comes to giving? According to Charities Aid Foundation an impressive 64% of the UK’s population donated to a charity in 2019
